A mysterious thief known only as ‘Mr X’  has stolen the Maze Stone and it’s up to Pierre and his friend Carmen to find the stone via a series of illustrated mazes.

Pierre the Maze Detective is an illustrated puzzle book that challenges the reader to study every page to find objects and ultimately a route through each ‘maze’. Aided by instructions and clues the reader is encouraged to progress through various beautifully illustrated locations.

The Illustrators

The book has been masterfully illustrated by IC4DESIGNS – a collective of illustrators based in Hiroshima, Japan. The collective was founded by Hirofumi Kamigaki in 1998. Their website features more information about the members of the collective and examples of their other output.

The Book

At roughly A3 in size the book is large, especially when you open it up and view the stunning double page spreads. Great for sharing and getting children (age 8+) involved with the puzzles. The book has a hardback cover and inside the back and front of the book is a selection of hand crafted lettering relating to the various mazes within.

The book is crammed full of imaginative characters in particular The Haunted Mansion which features an incredible range of magical and mythical beasts and creatures. Each page also features detailed and unusual architecture, landscapes and locations.

Who should buy the book?

The book is aimed at ages 8+ so it’d make a great gift for children around that age. The highly detailed, often humorous illustrations should also appeal to anyone who loves intricate artwork. There’s always a new and entertaining detail to discover within each spread.
